Description
Hodess was hired as a design-builder under a special provision of Virginia’s purchasing rules to renovate 22,630 sf of cleanroom space in the basement of a historic 1920s building on campus. The project was completed in three phases to maintain operations in the occupied building, requiring workarounds like temporary routing of mechanical systems and pedestrian traffic control. The scope included new process systems such as CDA, N2, PCW, DI water, WWT, P Vac, and high-purity piping. The facility included production space, lab areas, hazardous material rooms, and classrooms. The cleanroom featured Unistrut and Plascore walls, Gordon Grid Ceiling System, and FFU recirculation in the ceiling plenum. Production equipment was temporarily relocated during construction and reinstalled into the new spaces.
